dc.description.abstractThis study is motivated by the phenomenon where experts said humour is one of the things that can be applied and affected the teaching situation in the classroom. The previous study stated that the right humour became very important because it affected students' learning in the classroom, helped individual coping with stress, and increased self-esteem. Therefore, the researcher examined humour to see how humour played a role in English Language Teaching (ELT). This study aimed to determine students perception of humour in ELT and they consideration of its essential in the learning process. The study was conducted using descriptive qualitative study and case study method. The study subjects were six students from English Department, with each of the highest and lowest GPAs of 2016-2018 academic year, Faculty of Islamic Studies, University of Muhammadiyah Aceh. The object of the study was the students’ perception and consideration of the humour importance in ELT. The data collection used was interview. The data analysis technique used data collection, data reduction, and data display. The results from interview showed that the respondents perceived lecturers who used humour in English Language Teaching were very creative and considered humour was important to be used in the classroom.en_US
