Abstract

Gestational weight gain indicates very important physiological and somatic
changes in fetal development and growth. Many factors are associated with the
weight of pregnant women.
Analytical research with cross sectional approach was conducted to analyze
the relationship of socioeconomic, health services, and maternal factors with
gestational weight gain. The number of samples in this study were 196 mothers who
had just given birth at the Public Health Center in the West Aceh District. Data was
collected using a questionnaire and examination of MCH book records. Statistical
analysis using logistic regression test with 95% confidence level.
Socio-economic factors related to the weight of pregnant women, namely
pregnant work (OR = 2.11; 95%CI: 1.06 - 4.19; p-value = 0.031). Maternal factors
associated with maternal weight were multigravida (OR = 1.94; 95%CI: 1.01 – 3.71; pvalue = 0.045), grandemultigravida (OR = 7.47; 95%CI: 1 .73 – 32.23; p-value = 0.007),
overweight before pregnancy (OR = 2.07; 95%CI: 1.08 – 3.97; p-value = 0.028), obesity
before pregnancy (OR = 6 .97; 95%CI: 2.12 – 22.8; p-value = 0.001). The most
dominant factor associated with maternal weight during pregnancy after adjusting
for the mother's occupation was obesity before pregnancy with an OR value of 8.18.
Pregnant women who are obese before pregnancy are associated with
excessive maternal weight during pregnancy, so expect pregnant women before
planning a pregnancy to ensure their nutritional status is in a normal state. Pregnant
women who are obese before becoming pregnant should pay attention to good
nutritional intake so that pregnancy weight gain is in accordance with the provisions
for pregnant women.
