Abstract

This study entitled: “The Use of Dictation Composition (dicto-comp) Technique
to Decrease Students’ Errors in Writing”. The purpose of this study is to analyze
the problem faced by students in writing and to analyze if the dicto comp
technique can reduce errors in writing. The causes of problem and efforts to solve
them. This research is a descriptive quantative study. Questionnaire and
interviews were used as the instruments in data collection. The subjects of study
were 10 students in the 3rd semester of Department of English, University of
Muhammadiyah Aceh. The majority of students stated that they was had
difficulties in writing English due to lack of knowledge of English word and
vocabulary and their lack of understanding of English grammar was also
influential. Factor that can reduce students’ errors in writing are: lecturers must
motivate students to continue practicing reading and writing, then students must
often learn about English grammar, when they are outside of the classroom by
watching English film, listening to English songs and reading English books. By
doing this, it is hoped that students’ errors in writing will decrease and gradually
improve over time.
