This study is entitled moral value of Emily Dickinson’s poetry. It analyzes the
three poems written by Emily Dickinson. It aims at determining the moral
message of the Hope is a Thing with Feathers, A Day! Help! Help! Help! Another
Day!, and Heaven So Far In My Mind. This study is conducted to investigate
moral messages of the three poems and also classify and determine the types of
moral values according to Nurgiantoro's theory, including: 1) Human Relationship
with Other Humans 2) Human Relationship with self and 3) Human Relationship
with God. The data for this study were gathered by using descriptive analysis and
evidence-based data collection. In all three poems, Emily Dickinson tells us of her
relationship with herself and her relationship with God. The results of this study
conclude that in Emily Dickinson's poem, which is examined for the type of
message in human relations with oneself that dominates the most, is introspection.
The message of the moral is relationship between human and God. This
conclusions obtained were based on the analysis of Emily Dickinson's poetry
found in the three poem studied.
