This study was conducted at Universitas Muhammadiyah Aceh to investigate
“The Strategies of Debate Participants in Increasing Their Public Speaking Skills”
as a condition in Skripsi Examination (Munaqasyah). This research means to find
out the strategies used by the debate participants in increasing their public
speaking skills, and to know whether the strategies can increase their public
speaking skills. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative
method. In collecting the data, interview was used. In order to answer the research
questions the researcher interviewed four debate participants from nine debate
participants.The participants of this research were the participants who have done
debate competition. There were two results of this research, first; there were
mentions that there are external factor and internal factor that influence the
strategy participants used to increase their public speaking skill. Second; all
participants agree with the strategies that used by them can increase their public
speaking and feel easy to deliver the ideas. They pointed out that speaking skill
greatly improved because when they was looking for material in the strategy they
was trained in acquiring vocabulary and how to expressing theyopinion. They also
feel enjoyable because they can prepare in advance through the debate
competition.
