Abstract

The title of this research is “AN ANALYSIS OF POLITTNESS STRATEGIESS USED
STUDENTS TOWARD LECTURESIN WHATSAPP INTERACTION ”.The research
aims to found out what kinds of the politeness strategies are used by students towards
lectures in WhatsApp Interaction and to know the dominant type of politeness
strategies used by students towards lectures in WhatsApp Interaction. In this
research used qualitative method. The participants of this research were 15 students
of English Department. To collected the data, the writer uses document analysis as
techniques of data collection.The writer questioned her friend who had sent chat
messages to lecturers on WhatsApp. The result of study, from the short messages sent
by students to lecturers when interacting in chat WhatsApp shows that students used
4 kinds of politeness strategies, Bald on record, Positive Politeness, Negative
Politeness, and Off Records. Besides, several dominant politeness strategies often
used by students were positive politeness and negative politeness. In these two
politeness strategies were also several sections such as give/ask question or reason,
intensify interest and minimize the imposition, and apologize, which have different
functions and purposes.
