The title of this research is “An Analysis Students’ Problem in Writing Thesis in
the Introduction Section”. The aims of this research were to find the students’
problems, the cause of problems, and how students solve the problems in writing
the thesis in the introduction section. A qualitative method was used in this
research. The sample of this research was 10 students in the English Department,
Faculty of Islamic Studies, Muhammadiyah Aceh University. In collecting data,
the researcher applied two instruments, they were: questionnaires and interviews.
The technique used to analyze the data in this research was descriptive analysis.
The results showed most of the problems that students faced in writing the thesis
in the introduction section were: matching the supporting theories, considering the
purpose, lack of paraphrasing, lack of motivation, lack of grammar, considering
the content and organization, and considering the topic. The cause of the problem
was their English proficiencies were still low. The last result of this research was
that students solved their problems by doing a routine consultation and reading
lots of sources that related to their thesis.
