This study aims to know the problems faced by students in translating English
Collocation into Bahasa Indonesia and to find out the strategies for helping
students in improving while their translating English Collocation into Indonesia.
The study was conducted using a mixed method and a questionnaire as the
primary research instrument. Furthermore, this study used puposive sampling as a
technique in which researcher selected samples based on specific criteria. The
respondents were 38, students from 3 University there were : University of
Muhammadiyah Aceh, University of Syiah Kuala, and University of Islam Negeri
Ar-raniry (UIN). The data was analyzed using percentage for quantitative method,
while for the qualitative data was examined descriptively. The study revealed that
students faced difficulties in translating English collocations into Bahasa
Indonesia, primarily due to a lack of their understanding of collocations, cultural
issues, grammar, and vocabulary. The majority of respondents agreed on these
issues, indicating that some students still faced difficulties. This study provided
insights into strategies that are considered to improve the ability to translate
English collocations into Indonesian, these strategies include using a dictionary,
using English collocations in teaching, reading books, practicing regularly,
watching western movies without subtitles, listening to music, using the internet,
learning slang and idioms, and using social media.
